X (Twitter) Shadowban: Visibility Limits Explained
X has talked about limiting the visibility of some posts and accounts instead of removing them. This is what people call a shadowban. Third-party checkers often rely on data that changes, so test it yourself.

Check your posts from a logged-out browser and from another account, compare impressions across recent posts, and stop spam-like behavior. Appeal only if you receive a notice.
What people notice
- Your replies are hidden behind "show more replies" or do not appear to others.
- Your posts do not show up in search, or your name does not appear in search suggestions.
- Impressions fall sharply across many posts, not just one.
- You get a notice about limited visibility or a locked account.
How to test it yourself
- Open your profile in a private window while logged out. Make sure your posts load.
- Ask a friend who does not follow you to search for your latest post by a unique phrase.
- Open a recent reply of yours from another account and check if it is visible.
- Compare impressions on your last 10 posts with the 10 before.
Causes
- Spam behavior, such as repeated links, copy-pasted replies and mass follows.
- Automation and posting tools used too aggressively.
- Many reports, blocks or mutes.
- Sensitive content or rule violations.
How to recover
- Stop automation and mass replies.
- Delete posts that may break the rules.
- Post original content and write replies that add something.
- If you see a notice, follow its steps and use the appeal option once.

This guide is general information based on platform help pages and user reports, not an official statement from the platform. Rules and timings change, so check the platform's own notice and Help Center. Never pay anyone who promises to unban an account, and never share passwords, codes or ID with them.
Frequently asked questions
Can a website prove an X shadowban?
Not reliably. Tools depend on data that changes, so test from logged-out and second accounts as well.
Is a locked account a shadowban?
No. A locked account usually has steps you can complete to regain access.
How long do limits last?
X does not publish times. They often ease after the cause stops, but it varies.
