Reels, TikTok and Shorts Safe Zone Checker
Captions, buttons and usernames cover parts of a vertical video. Upload a frame to see the danger zones for each app, and download the overlay to use in your editor.
Free, no sign-up, runs in your browser. Updated 2026-10-29.
Canvas is 1080 x 1920. Presets are approximate starting points, so adjust the margins if the app changes.
What a safe zone is
Vertical video apps draw their own interface on top of your video: the username and caption near the bottom, the like, comment and share buttons down the right side, and the profile and search bar at the top. Anything important you place under those elements can be hidden. A safe zone is the area that usually stays clear.
How to use this checker
- Upload a still image, or a video. For a video the tool grabs a frame.
- Pick a platform. The red areas are where the app interface commonly covers your video.
- Keep faces, text and calls to action inside the dashed box.
- Download the overlay and place it on top of your project in your video editor as a guide, then remove it before export.
Why the margins are adjustable
Each app changes its layout over time and across devices, so the numbers are approximate starting points rather than official measurements. Open your own video in the app, see where the interface lands, and adjust the margins to match.
Tips
- Put captions and on-screen text in the middle of the frame, not at the very bottom.
- Leave room on the right for the buttons.
- Use 1080 × 1920 (9:16) for all three platforms.
- Use the image resizer to fit a cover or thumbnail to 9:16.

Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. The frame is read in your browser and never leaves your device.
Are these official safe zones?
No. They are approximate starting points. Apps change their interface, so check on your own device and adjust.
What size should my video be?
Vertical 1080 × 1920 pixels (9:16) works on all three platforms.
Why does it use one frame of my video?
The checker only needs a single frame to show where the interface covers the picture.
