Why sizes matter
Each platform crops and compresses images to its own shape. An image with the wrong proportions gets cut off in the feed, or squeezed with black bars. Resizing to the platform's size first lets you choose what is cropped instead of leaving it to the app.
Fill or fit?
- Fill and crop covers the whole frame and trims the edges that do not fit. Best for photos, thumbnails and covers.
- Fit inside keeps the whole image and adds a background colour around it. Best for logos, screenshots and text you cannot afford to cut.
Common sizes
| Use | Size | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram portrait post | 1080 × 1350 | 4:5 |
| Instagram square post | 1080 × 1080 | 1:1 |
| Story, Reel or TikTok | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 |
| YouTube thumbnail | 1280 × 720 | 16:9 |
| Pinterest pin | 1000 × 1500 | 2:3 |
Platforms change their recommendations, so treat these as common current sizes. See the image sizes and limits guide for more.
Tips for sharper images
- Start from the largest original you have. Enlarging a small image makes it soft.
- Keep faces and key text away from the edges, since feeds crop differently.
- Use PNG for graphics and text, and JPEG for photos when you need a smaller file.
Privacy
The image is read and resized in your browser with the canvas feature. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so it is safe to use with unreleased or private pictures.

Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and the image never leaves your device.
Why does my image look blurry?
The original was smaller than the target size and had to be enlarged. Use a larger original if you can.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Choose a photo from your gallery and download the result.
PNG or JPEG?
PNG is lossless and best for text and graphics. JPEG gives smaller files for photos.
