Read the policy in the notice, appeal in YouTube Studio if you believe it is wrong, and fix similar videos. Repeated strikes in a short time can lead to termination, so check YouTube's current policy for the exact rules.
Warnings vs strikes
For many policies, the first violation results in a warning with no penalty to the channel, and later violations result in strikes. YouTube states that strikes expire after a period if you do not receive new ones, and that a set number of strikes within that period can lead to termination. Severe abuse can lead to immediate termination without a warning. The details change, so read the notice and YouTube's Help page.
Typical restrictions
A strike can come with a temporary restriction on uploading, posting or going live. Repeated strikes bring longer restrictions. The notice in YouTube Studio lists what applies to you.
What to do
- Open the notice in YouTube Studio and read which policy was cited and which video.
- Decide whether it was correct. If the video did break the rule, remove or edit it.
- If you believe it was wrong, use the appeal option from the notice. Explain the context clearly and briefly. The appeal message generator can help with wording.
- Review your other videos, titles, thumbnails and descriptions for the same issue.
- Do not upload similar content while a restriction is active.
Common policy areas
